There has been a series of allegations and counter-allegations following the violence in Howrah, West Bengal on Thursday. The state's main opposition party, the BJP, has criticized the Mamata government over the incident, while the government has assigned the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the matter.
On Friday, Shubhendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition and a BJP leader, called for the NIA and CBI to investigate the incident.
Sources suggest that Inspector General of Police, CID Sunli Chowdhary, will head the probe team. The Governor has also pledged to take concrete action against those responsible for setting fire to public property, particularly on the religious day of Ram Navami.
The Raj Bhavan will remain vigilant to ensure the safety, property, and dignity of the common people.
